Australian soprano Roberta Diamond enjoys an international career spanning opera, early music, Lieder and ensemble performance. Particularly sought after for her versatility and strong stage presence, Roberta has appeared as a soloist with ensembles including Spira Mirabilis, Profeti della Quinta, Emma Kirkby’s Dowland Works, La Cetra, Pinchgut Opera and The Song Company, as well as in ensemble engagements with Voces8 and Sollazzo Ensemble. She has performed at festivals including the Utrecht Early Music Festival, MA Festival Bruges, Sydney Festival, Mars en Baroque and Innsbruck Festival of Early Music.
Her recent operatic roles include Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro), Amore (L’incoronazione di Poppea), Galatea (Acis and Galatea), Ninfa/Proserpina (Orfeo), Amour (Platée), Melanto and Giunone (Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria), Jessie (Mahagonny Songspiel), Giacinta (L’Orontea) and the Governess in a concert performance of The Turn of the Screw.
Equally at home in concert repertoire, Roberta’s engagements have ranged from medieval and renaissance music to Lieder, French chanson, Argentine folklore and Sephardic folk music. Keen to explore as many forms of song as possible, she also pursues songwriting as a creative side project.
A graduate of the University of Sydney with a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Spanish and Arabic, Roberta went on to earn a Master’s degree in Music from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and further specialised studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. She is now based in Switzerland.
Critics have praised her performances, describing her voice as “mellifluous”, “luscious” and “silvery”, with one review noting her “dazzling top notes and ability to seamlessly throw in a messa di voce or two.” Another remarked: “Diamond’s fairylike and seductive performance was in a different register to the other singers, cutting across the grain of the action with captivating effect.”
